About Basey Insurance

Hi, my name is Tom Basey, owner of Basey Insurance. I help people and small businesses find cost-effective health insurance options and employee benefits. It’s my pleasure to serve customers in the DFW area and across the state of Texas, whether in person or online.

What’s more important than health? Health insurance may not be the most important thing out there, but it’s up there.

I work with major health insurance companies and healthcare providers to provide insurance options to individuals and small businesses. Because I work with many major carriers, I am able to tailor solutions in terms of both features and costs—finding the best solution for each client.

A Bit More About Me

I was born in raised in Austin, Texas. My father was a career fireman; my mother was a career teacher. My father’s most frequent advice to me was, “Save your money.” My mother always emphasized “service” and the importance of serving others. I haven’t forgotten those simple lessons.

Prior to starting Basey Insurance, I was a design engineer, engineering manager, and project manager. Working these roles in corporate America taught me professionalism, finances, and employee benefits.

I have lived in the Metroplex/DFW area for over 20 years. I like that the area is centrally located in the US with a low cost of living, moderate weather, and a thorough highway system. But to remember my hometown, I have an old portrait of horse-drawn carriages along Congress Avenue in Austin. (My grandfather used to sell popcorn outside the movie theater on that same street at the very beginning of the 20th century.)

When I’m not helping people find insurance that fits their needs, I enjoy playing soccer, fishing, reading, and traveling. Of those, the one I do most is play soccer. What I love about soccer is that it’s global—I can meet people from all over the world and discuss it for hours! I started playing at the YMCA in 6th grade and am still coaching my godsons at the Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association.

I also volunteer with Fort Worth ISD and Mansfield ISD, sometimes as a guest speaker and sometimes helping with college career fairs. I have also judged thesis presentations at the University of Texas at Arlington.

I consider myself to be a life-long learner. People I work with say I am easy to work with because I am predictable and dependable. Some people say I am robotic—but they forget that robots can provide great service!

I believe in rightselling, not overselling. That is, I strive to understand my customers’ needs so I can tailor solutions specifically for them. My customers can count on me to be dedicated to their interests.

I am also fluent in Spanish, something I believe is important in a state where about one-third of the population speaks the language at home or among family.

Why Basey Insurance

Many people already have insurance, but a lot of them have no idea what their deductible is. Whatever that number is, it’s very likely that they can secure a supplemental policy at a very low monthly rate that will largely address the deductible.

For example, my wife and I have a $6,000 deductible. In 2019, the average medical event in the US cost $6,000. Therefore, if I have a medical event, there is a 50% chance I won’t meet my deductible. For that reason, I have supplemental insurance that pays directly to me.

It’s because of things like this that I want to help people find insurance plans that work for them. But beyond that, I also want to help them understand what they have in their policies and why it’s important.
